Essential Functions: The GPSS Policy Analyst will conduct high-level academic research on pressing student issues identified by the GPSS Officers and Executive Committee. Essential duties include:

  • Conducting one full-scale policy analysis (10-12+ pages) per quarter
    • This policy analysis must include an overview of the problem, policy goals, policy alternatives, criteria for selection, evaluation of alternatives and recommendations
  • Conducting on-going research as decided by the GPSS Officers and the GPSS Executive Committee
  • Helping GPSS implement approved recommendations outlined in the policy analysis
  • Conducting the annual GPSS survey
  • Conducting legislative and policy research as necessary to support the GPSS Officers
  • Analyzing the results from the annual GPSS survey

Additional Duties: The GPSS Policy Analyst will also occasionally provide general office support and assigned duties as needed.

Hours and Salary: $15-19.79/hour – 19.5 hours per week

Qualifications: Must be a student (undergraduate or graduate) for the 2009-10 academic year at the University of Washington. The applicant must possess excellent writing and communication skills. Proficient computer skills are required, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Furthermore, the applicant must be familiar with conducting policy analysis and research. In addition, the applicant must be proficient with SPSS or other statistical software. The applicant must be able to conduct literature reviews and understand quantitative and qualitative research. Candidates should be good at working in groups but also able to work independently. Finally, applicants must be eager to make a difference and willing to learn new skills.
